Abstract

A sample of 20 urban based families in Southern Queensland which included one member who had owned or managed a farm within the previous ten years was interviewed in depth as to their reasons for rural/urban migration, difficulties involved and differences they saw in urban and rural attitudes and values. The main reasons for leaving were family reasons, or economic conditions, though none of them had been in financial difficulties while farming.
