Abstract

Papua New Guinea banana accessions were screened for resistance to M. musicola. Leaves were rated for disease on 3 occasions at monthly intervals to determine the youngest leaf spotted (YLS) and the youngest leaf with at least 33% of the lamina destroyed by disease (YL33). The YLS for the accessions ranged from 5.3 to 15.7 and the YL33 from 7.0 to 15.7. There was a considerable range of reactions to the pathogen with obviously resistant varieties in all genomic groups.
