AbstractThe primary dispersal mechanism for Chromolaena odorata (Siam weed) is generally considered to be wind dispersal, however research and field mapping suggest several additional natural and anthropocentric mechanisms are also important. Research has concentrated on the biology of the weed and natural dispersal mechanisms such as wind and water. Historical mapping records show dispersal along roadsides, and into rural and environmental areas. Spread via human vectors, including work and recreational vehicles, as well as animals probably contributed to the creation of new infestations. Prevention, early intervention and management actions should consider all dispersal mechanisms.
