Mysore, which would otherwise be useful as a source of disease resistance in Australia, is contaminated with banana streak badnavirus, causing typical yellow streaking of the leaves. In tests during which Mysore was screened for female fertility, a triploid hybrid was found to contain BSV, confirming seed transmission of the virus. Attempts are being made to free Mysore from the virus by meristem culture.
