A nuclear-polyhedrosis virus of the painted apple moth (Orgyia anartoides (Walker))

Abstract

A previously unrecorded nuclear polyhedrosis virus of Orgyia anartoides (Wlk.) found in larvae collected on apple in Queensland in 1966-68 is described on the basis of its morphology and pathology and the influence of larval age and size of the virus dosage on the incubation period. The polyhedra were distinguishable serologically from nuclear polyhedra from larvae of four other species of Lepidoptera, but not from those from O. australis Wlk. The viruses from O. anartoides and O. australis were reciprocally cross- infective.
