Abstract

The chromosome number (previously undetermined) of P. alata, P. antioquiensis and P. filamentosa is 2n = 18. The chromosome numbers of various other species, interspecific hybrids and subspecific forms in the genus Passiflora are also tabulated. The cytology of the exotic Passiflora species is discussed in relation to evolution in the genus and in regard to a breeding programme involving commercial passion fruit, P. edulis.
