Abstract

A brief review of agricultural development in Australia is presented before the following emerging crop technologies are discussed: water use optimization; integrated pest control; predictive technologies; precision agriculture; biotechnology; development of new crops and crop products; and information systems. Issues regarding biodiversity, intellectual capital, and the changing approaches to agricultural science are also discussed. It is concluded that technology has played a significant role in transforming Australian cropping industries to their current position and will continue to support grain producers in addressing the challenges they face today and into the future.
