Abstract

This project is focused on learning from past surveillance, quarantine and eradication efforts to create decision support for future incursions. Regional surveillance modeling is a necessary first step in quarantine planning. A first stage model has been developed that incorporates environmental factors as well as social connections to prioritise surveillance. The preliminary results from this
model highlight the need to look more broadly than those areas around known infected sites. We are currently assessing how this model can be turned into a decision support tool to assist decision makers. In the project we are also examining the population genetic structure of QFly in the former Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone. Results to date are consistent with previous studies, however one area appears to be isolated. Further samples are being sought to assist in understanding the factors that are driving this isolation, and how this could assist with quarantine and eradication.
