Abstract

In a survey of melioidosis in 220 animals in northern Queensland from January 1975 to December 1979, 75 strains of Pseudomonas pseudomallei were isolated from 48 animals, 21.8% (30 of 110 pigs, 9 of 39 sheep, 5 of 10 goats, 2 of 8 birds, and one of 8 horses and one tree kangaroo). No isolations were made from 32 cattle, 11 dogs and one deer examined.
