Abstract

Panama disease TR4 causes devastation, so blame is common.
Today’s argument: move beyond blame towards collective learning, capacity and action

This presentation demonstrated Queensland’s TR4 response was informed by observing the disease on banana farms overseas, understanding what worked and what didn’t, developing and validating disease mitigation concepts with partners and adapting them for Queensland banana producers. Panama disease TR4 is present in the Tully Valley and is spread through soil, plant and water movement. Queensland’s banana industry is worth $676 million and supports about 18,000 regional jobs.
