Abstract

Following the significant locust outbreak across central and western Queensland in 2025, the Queensland Department of Primary Industries initiated two complementary projects to explore proactive, technology-enabled approaches for improving locust surveillance, prediction, and management. These projects investigated the application of hyperspectral imaging, predictive modelling, drone-based surveillance, drone-delivered treatments, and enhanced field sampling methods to support future response capability.
