AbstractA significant challenge was ahead of the DPI team leading the “Supporting the expansion of soybeans in high rainfall zones in coastal QLD” project with the goal of doubling the industry within 3 years. Whilst the goal wasn’t attained, we successfully transformed this challenge into a 3-year journey of meaningful growth and lasting value for the industry. There were 902 attendees at 31 events across three regions in coastal Queensland. We implemented 12 paddock demonstration trials and held meetings in these paddocks to learn skills from content experts. The Australian Soybean Production Manual was updated and published – a major legacy of this project. We trained 60 advisors at the inaugural two-day Soybean Masterclasses. We also optimised 20 harvesters and took 24 growers on a week-long tour facilitating peer to peer knowledge exchange, expanding networks and making important new connections between growers and marketers. 89% walked away with tangible ideas for a practice change to implement on their farm, with 63% of them stating they will implement these changes either immediately or in the next crop cycle.
