Abstract

An assessment has been made of fruit and nut trees with potential for atolls of five Pacific Island countries. This study involved visits to the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands and Tuvalu, to observe those species presently grown, as well as consideration of atoll soils, salinity factors, climate patterns, and fruit and nut trees reported from atolls elsewhere in the world. Those grown with success in the Caribbean and the Maldives were identified.
