Abstract

The Queensland strawberry industry contributes approx. $180 to $200 million per annum to the Queensland economy, and is the second largest fruit industry in Queensland. The industry is very reliant on planting approved runners produced by several approved runner growers in Australia. While crop ratooning occurs, the provision of new planting material (runners) each year is by far the most common current method of crop production in Queensland. The QSGA’s Queensland Strawberry Runner Grower Accreditation Scheme rules that had been used for many years were recognised as being seriously outdated, and were overdue for updating and redrafting.
