International Pineapple Symposium Industry Workshop

Abstract

The 8th International Pineapple Symposium was held in Brisbane as part of the International Horticultural Congress from 18-22 August, 2014. The Symposium is a scientific event and presentations and posters aimed at a scientific audience. Many of the speakers are however highly experienced in their field but unlikely to visit Australia under normal circumstances given the small size of our pineapple industry by world standards. The Workshop was therefore timed to coincide with the Symposium to both attract international experts and to engage them as speakers in a grower friendly format. The Workshop was held in Glasshouse Mountains, the most significant pineapple region in Queensland, producing some 65% of the state’s pineapple. The workshop was aimed at Australian producers and industry people and combined with the industry’s annual field day to take advantage of other associated activities and hence attract a maximum number of producers.
