Abstract

The purpose of this communication is to report a spectacular occurrence of laterite near Gayndah, in south-eastern Queensland, and to give a brief description of the components of the profile. Current views on the structure and origin of laterite are summarized briefly, and a laterite profile with a depth of over 200 feet, indicating a long period of laterisation, is described.
