A field trial on a suspected dieldrin-resistant population of banana weevil borer

Abstract

A field test with 0.05% dieldrin applied in sprays to banana in a plantation in Queensland, Australia, in 1971-72 confirmed that Cosmopolites sordidus (Germ.) had not developed resistance to the insecticide [cf. preceding abstract]. The test also indicated that pirimiphos-ethyl was an effective alternative should dieldrin- resistance develop. ADDITIONAL ABSTRACT: A field trial demonstrated that Cosmopolites sordidus previously suspected to be resistant to 0.5% dieldrin in a plantation at Narangba in southern Queensland was not resistant. The trial also indicated that a promising alternative insecticide, pirimiphos-ethyl, is available should dieldrin resistance develop.
